What Does It Mean to Have a Zero-Carbon Footprint?

Blue Wave Adventures is dedicated to respecting and protecting the environment in everything we do. Not only do we try to educate every guest on our eco tours in Myrtle Beach, but we also support dozens of environmental organizations and even collect trash on our excursions. But one effort we’re proudest of is consistently striving for a zero-carbon footprint. What does that mean, and why is it important? We’re here to tell you.

WHAT IS A CARBON FOOTPRINT?

According to The Nature Conservancy, “A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our action.” Everything we do each day, from driving to and from work to enjoying a steak dinner, can contribute to our individual carbon footprints.

So, then, what does it mean to have a zero-carbon footprint (also called “net zero”)? Despite all of our best efforts, it will be impossible to produce no greenhouse gases in our lives. We couldn’t even go a day without doing so! But there are actions we can take to offset our carbon emissions, such as planting trees and voting for legislation aimed at carbon neutrality.

HOW WE DO OUR PART

As a company, Blue Wave Adventures has a responsibility to offset our carbon footprint in any way possible. We are fully aware of the impending threat of climate change, and we know we all have to do our parts to protect not only our oceans but our planet as a whole. Working near Myrtle Beach means that we see the effects of climate change every day, which is why we’re so passionate about its reversal.

Blue Wave Adventures is a proud supporter of Cool Effect, an organization dedicated to helping individuals and companies offset their carbon emissions. You can calculate your carbon output right on their website and donate the amount it would take to fund a project that offsets an equivalent amount of carbon emissions.

90% of all money donated to Cool Effect goes directly toward supporting their projects. The team searches the world to find projects that are measurably working to reduce greenhouse gases. Each project’s acceptance only comes after a rigorous selection process. Currently, projects are being conducted in areas like Myanmar, Mauritius, Tennessee, Colorado, India, Mexico, and China.

YOUR ECO-FRIENDLY VACATION

When you’re planning your vacation to Myrtle Beach, we encourage you to consider your own carbon footprint and support companies who are eager to do the same. Blue Wave Adventures not only offers fun excursions for the whole family, but we’re also proud to educate and demonstrate what we can do to save our oceans.

At the end of the day, we strive to provide excursions that are both relaxing and educational, providing incredible memories for the whole family. Contact our team today to learn more about our dolphin tours and eco-tours!
