21 Dec 3 Eco-Friendly New Year’s Resolutions
When you think about New Year’s resolutions, you probably imagine sentiments like “lose weight,” “save money, “ or “spend more time with my family.” But for 2023, what if your resolution benefitted more than just you? Consider picking up some eco-friendly habits as your New Year’s resolution this January. Here are three easy ways to get started.
Reduce Your Plastic Use (*An easy add to your New Year’s Resolutions)
We’ve heard it time and time again, but reducing the amount of plastic you use greatly reduces your carbon footprint and the overall impact you have on the environment. Not only that, but reusable containers save you money in the long run! A simple way to start is by purchasing a reusable water bottle. You can refill it as opposed to purchasing a plastic water bottle when you’re thirsty. This is one of many New Year’s resolutions we should all be able to get behind! (Bonus tip: bring your empty reusable water bottle to the airport, and you can fill it with water once you get to your gate!)
Drive as Little as Possible
For many people, driving is an inevitability. Most of us have to drive to work and aren’t able to get to many places on foot. But when you have the chance, consider opting for a different mode of transportation. Maybe your city has a bus route, or perhaps you can carpool with your coworkers once a week. A lot of cities have adopted public bike and scooter-sharing systems as well. Plus, when you’re traveling, using the local public transit system saves you money and supports the local economy!
Pursue Eco-Friendly Travel
Speaking of traveling, don’t forget to keep pursuing your habits while you’re out of town. Before your trip, think about eco-friendly things to do, like walking tours of the city or hikes through a nature preserve. For instance, if you’re coming to South Carolina, booking a Myrtle Beach eco tour is a great way to enjoy the city and protect the environment! Look for local businesses that actively pursue eco-friendly practices, find produce and other foods at the farmer’s market, and consider booking your lodging in a central location where you can walk to attractions.
