3 Easy Ways to Reduce Your Plastic Waste

When we host our dolphin tours in Myrtle Beach, we love showing guests the incredible wildlife in the area. But on top of the awesome sights, our tours also include lessons about the dolphins and other marine life in the area. Blue Wave Adventures is a huge advocate of good stewardship to our local wildlife and our planet in general, and one of the biggest threats to our marine creatures is plastic in the oceans. If you want to do your part, there are a few easy swaps you can make to reduce your plastic waste.

1. Avoid Single-Use Plastics

When you grab some food at a fast-food restaurant or get something “to go” when you’re dining, you’re probably offered some single-use plastics like silverware or straws. Unfortunately, these are some of the most common plastic items we see when we’re out on our Myrtle Beach dolphin tours. Luckily, it’s easy to say “no” to these items when you’re dining out! Purchasing a reusable travel silverware set or a few metal straws only costs a couple of dollars and can easily replace those single-use plastics that wind up in the trash and in our oceans.

2. Look at Your Toiletries

Our toiletries often have more plastic than we realize, and switching out a few of these products can make a world of difference in your plastic waste. For instance, converting from traditional shampoo in a plastic bottle and using shampoo bars instead is a great way to reduce plastic waste. You can also opt for a metal razor instead of plastic disposable ones, choose wooden combs instead of plastic, or go for a bamboo toothbrush instead of a typical plastic option.

3. Bring Your Own Bags

Who doesn’t love to shop? Whether you’re at the grocery store or are finding souvenirs when you’re on vacation here in Myrtle Beach, your items typically go into a plastic bag after they’ve been purchased. Why not try bringing your own bags instead? Reusable tote bags typically only cost a couple of dollars and can be used again and again, saving tons of plastic waste. (Plus, if you’re using bigger totes to carry your groceries, that equals fewer trips from your car to your house!)

How Blue Wave Adventures is Doing Our Part

We’re always doing our part to protect our planet, both at home and on the job. If we spot trash in the water on one of our dolphin tours in Myrtle Beach, we’ll stop to scoop it up. We’re constantly looking for new organizations to support in their efforts to protect the planet, and we talk to our dolphin cruise guests about how they can help in their at-home conservation efforts as well.

Even if you don’t live near the ocean, integrating a few eco-friendly habits into your routine can make a huge difference in the health and safety of our marine life. Then, you can come enjoy dolphin tours in Myrtle Beach again and again, resting assured that the wildlife you see is happy and healthy!
